Home Truths That Tell A Story

 4 Unique Home Truths

Home Truth No.1

It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser

There is a ton of truth in this statement. Getting older really doesn’t require anything more than the passage of time. Even if you make the argument that age is really only a concept, it isn’t too difficult to become more mature, it’s a natural process. Becoming wiser is a different story. That implies that you are learning something, and to do that you must have a learner’s mind and be willing to be taught. If you can’t do that, then its virtually impossible to become wiser.

Home Truth No. 2

Some days, you’re the dog; some days you’re the hydrant

home truths

Although this home truth carries with it a rather amusing, albeit graphic mental image, the point it makes is valid. Some days are just better than others and not everything is going to go your way all the time. Conversely, not everything is going to be difficult and not every day is going to be fraught with challenges. Remember that we will always have both wins and setbacks, it’s how we react to them that matters.

Home Truth No. 3

It’s hard to make a comeback when you haven’t been anywhere

This home truth is really a tongue in cheek remark, but under the glib façade lies an undeniable truth. You can’t become much of anything if you don’t go anywhere, or at least make some effort. Not having ever been anywhere is synonymous with not having ever done anything. You don’t have to swing for the fences on every pitch, but you do have to at least take a poke at the ball now and then. Better yet, take a good swipe at it. I’ve got another good baseball analogy at the bottom of this post too.

Home Truth No. 4

The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth

A stunningly accurate comment, and one that really sets one’s mind to thinking. All of us have been in ruts at one time or another. Perhaps some of you still are. I have days when I feel that I am too. Then I give myself a good talking to about what the value of the rut really is, and what it is really costing and that prompts me in into action. Ruts can be devastating, but they are infinitely preferable to a grave. You can snap out of a rut, you can choose differently and move on. Those options aren’t available from the grave. That’s a serious difference, if you elect to look at it that way. If you are in a rut, make a plan to get out and act on your plan. Don’t allow your rut to deepen till it bcomes a grave, be it symbolic or real.

My Baseball Home Truth Quote…

I’d rather be tagged out trying to steal second base than picked off scuttling back to the safety of first.”

Till Next Time….
