21 Ways Average People vs. Rich People ARE Different

There is a lot to the old adage that you are who you think you are. Most average people wish they were rich. Most rich people do not wish they were average. But most average people don’t think or act like rich people. Recently, the worlds richest woman, mining magnate Gina Rinehart took the poor and middle class to task for essentially screwing up their own chances. She was very candid in her assessment and said that if they didn’t squander their time and money on drinking, smoking and socializing, and instead spent it in pursuit of wealth as she and other rich people have then they too, could become rich.

Average People vs. Rich People

She has had to endure a firestorm of media attention since she wrote the article, but she raises an interesting point. What if there is a grain of truth in what she says? After examining these 21 differences that define the Average People vs. Rich People you will see a pattern repeated over and over. Rich people think differently, much differently. If you aspire to riches, you would do well to consider doing some rethinking and align your thoughts with those of a wealthy person.

A recently published book by Steve Siebold, titled “How Rich People Think” describes his findings after nearly three decades of interviews with millionaires from around the world. His quest was to find out what makes them different from everyone else. His findings and analysis of  Average People vs Rich People came to the conclusion that it had little to do with the money itself, but instead the greatest differences lay in the respective mentalities.

The following 21 points will clearly illustrate those differences. Read on and see how what you think determines what you do, and that in turn determines who you are. If you want to rechoose you can do so, simply change how you think. Most poor people want something more but lack the resources, opportunities and education to change their situation. Most middle class have those things, but choose instead to be comfortable where they are with what they have. Rich people view comfortable quite differently.

Average People vs. Rich People: Base Difference in Thoughts

1. Average people think MONEY is the root of all evil. Rich people believe POVERTY is the root of all evil. Most poor and average people believe that in order to be rich you have to have been lucky, dishonest or have stepped on others to attain wealth. That’s why there’s a certain shame that comes along with “getting rich” in lower-income communities. The point being that once you are rich, you no longer “belong.” Rich people in the world  know that while having money doesn’t guarantee happiness, it does make your life easier and more enjoyable.”

2. Average people think selfishness is a vice. Rich people think selfishness is a virtue. Rich people engage in activities that produce happiness for themselves. They also make sure that they have all the comforts that a good life can afford them, and they don’t feel ashamed to show it. They don’t have the same self imposed guilt trip that many of the lower income people do when it comes to spending money on themselves. The problem is that middle class people see that as a negative––and it’s keeping them poor. Siebold goes on to say, “If you’re not taking care of you, you’re not in a position to help anyone else. You can’t give what you don’t have.”

3. Average people have a lottery mentality. Rich people have an action mentality. “While the masses are waiting to pick the right numbers and praying for prosperity, the great ones are finding solutions to other peoples problems. The real opportunities lay in finding simple solutions to everyday problems that are felt by many people. Average people are waiting for a ‘hero’ whether it’s God, a rich uncle, a good friend or a rich spouse to come along and change their circumstances. Rich people see themselves as the ‘hero’ and they become the change that their circumstances require.
