Happy Birthday Canada

Oh, Canada! You Look Better Than Ever!

Canada Once Again Chosen As The Best Country To Live In

In a recent poll conducted on 30,000 people world-wide, Canada, for the third year running, was chosen as the Best Country In The World to live in. Looks like our secret is getting out guys. We have so much to be thankful for here and so much to be proud of. I want to wish all my fellow Canadians a fantastically, beautiful Happy Canada Day!

Canada

We’ve got wide open spaces and friendly faces, more mountains than you can climb in three lifetimes, enough lakes that there would only be 3 or 4 people living on each one if we divvied them up. We’ve got forests that just don’t stop, and soil so rich we could feed the world and some years we nearly do. We have jaw dropping waterfalls, rocky vistas and more shoreline than anyone else in the world.

We’ve got maple syrup, mounted police and muskeg. We have totem poles, Toronto and Tim Hortons. We have bison, bears (all three colours)and belugas. We have Care cards, the Calgary Stampede and Cape Breton Island. We have the world’s fastest schooner, the world’s slowest mail and the most costly cell phone plans.

Why I Love Canada

Canadian anthemI’m sitting here this morning looking out my window, listening to the birds, looking at the mist laying across the lower green fields and watching the sun kiss the tops of the purple mountains. I know for a fact that there is nowhere I’d rather be, or that I’d trade anyone for.  This is my land and I love her, from her insane politicians, to her undeniable beauty, to her welcoming arms for people from around the globe.

I’ve often said that there is such a huge difference between us and our neighbors to the south. I love them dearly, but we are so different. In the U.S., the country comes together in time of crisis or when they go to war. In Canada, all we have to do is play a hockey game and more than 75% of us will tune in to watch it. That’s how proud we are of our country.

As a nation, we have only ever been invaded once and we were victorious in turning the invasion aside and even went so far as to burn the government building in Washington in retaliation for the firing of ours at York. Since then, we have fought in the conflicts that we felt were right for us, acting on our own independent choice. Our role throughout the world has primarily been that of a peace keeper and Canada has been synonymous with that mission.

We have a lot of work to do in this country, and more than even before we are going to have to look beyond our borders to find enough people to do it all. I am looking forward to working and living in harmony with people from all around the world. Let’s face it. Everyone here, including the first nations or indigenous people are all imports in the last ten thousand years or so. We have a tremendously bright future in front of us and we will need everyone we can get.

To all my fellow inhabitants of the ‘Home and Native Land’:

Have A Terrific Happy Canada Day!

And to everyone else, come on over and see what all the fuss is all about. Bring your work boots and your tool kit along, just in case. You will love it here. After all, We’ve Got Stronger Beer!

Till Next Time
