Top Ten Internet Marketing Books You Must Have

You’re an internet marketing guru, and you are looking for ideas that you can pass on to your followers that will blow their internet marketing business up to become even more successful than yours. Or maybe you are just the guy or gal who is poking this internet marketing thing with a long stick (much the same as you would a wasp’s nest) just to see if it is worth exploring or not. Or maybe, just maybe, you are like the 10 gajillion other people (just like me) who are somewhere in between.

Either way, ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’, and in order to create any kind of success you either have to become incredibly lucky, fail your way to the top, or learn how it is done. I prefer the third option because it is the cheapest and most predictable. I have found that often the best way to create success is to recreate it. Simply look at what other successful people have done and copy the hell out of them. To help us all accomplish that, I am going to do a short review of the top ten internet marketing books that between them, cover off pretty much every aspect of internet marketing. Time’s a wastin’ so let’s get rolling.

This is possibly the most critical aspect of your website, so to start us off on the right foot Steve Krug’s book “Don’t Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability, 2nd Edition” is the best there is. The premise is as basic as you can get, but it clearly underlines a HUGE problem in internet marketing and the internet in general. When people get on your site, you cannot expect them to be able to ‘intuitively find their way around.’ They won’t do it. They will become frustrated and leave. Always remember, ‘The confused mind says NO.’

The reason that I believe this is the best of the internet marketing books on this topic, is the way that Krug approached the subject of usability. His intent was to have people think the same way that a usability expert would, to have that same impartial critical look at a website that any user would. If you want to try this out for yourself, don’t even wait to read the book. Just ask some of your friends and neighbours to look at your website and give you their frankest thoughts. You will hear things that you will NEVER learn at google analytics.

Steve’s book has sold over 300,000 copies as people realize the importance of usability, and its undeniable value in the process of internet marketing.  Steve himself has said that much of what he does is just common sense, and that with a little instruction anyone can do it. The book is that, and so much more. It’s fairly short (200 pages), and it is an easy read that keeps you interested with a lot of little nuggets of key information.

From explaining how we really use the web, through designing pages for scanning and not reading, navigation design and all the way to user testing, this book covers it all.  It is no wonder it is regarded as the ‘Internet Marketing Bible On Usability‘.
