I’ve Got No Time

No Time Left To Do That

No time left, how many times do you find yourself thinking these thoughts or saying those words? If you’re like me, and about three-quarters of the rest of the planet, it is a lot more often than we would like. How did life get so crazy, and how did we all lose control over what we have to do and where we have to be? And far more importantly, if you accept that we are too busy and have no time for ourselves, how do we get some back? How do we regain control?

no time

First of all, you have to keep track of it. I know, boring. But also absolutely essential. Just like money, if you don’t record how you spend it, and where and on what, then you cannot hope to ever manage it. And just like money, if you don’t manage it, others will manage it for you. Trust me, they do not have your vested interests at heart. If you diligently keep track and break it down as much as you can, you will be amazed at how your time is actually spent. It’s no wonder you have no time. Look at all the things that you do during the course of a day. You need some tips on how to make better use of your time. Luckily, I have a few.

1. Simplify Your Life

Seriously. Look at the things that you are committing your time to, and take the three elective things you least like doing off the list. By elective, I mean you won’t die or suffer undo hardship if you don’t do them. Sending out fifty Christmas cards (or more), attending every craft fair within a hundred miles and volunteering for three fundraisers a month are examples of time eaters. So is going for coffee every day, watching Dancing With The Stars every night, and driving from bargain to bargain while shopping. Now don’t get me wrong, any activity takes time, the point is not to do them to excess.

2. Closely Look At The Pattern Of Things That You Do

Look for efficiencies in every thing that you do. Don’t make isolated trips with your car, or even within your home. Combine activities when you drive to town and don’t be shy about enlisting the help of others. Offer to pick up things for a neighbour, or to drop their kids with yours. Odds are good that they will do the same for you. This can really help you with your no time problem. Be creative. My in-laws used to live in a two storey house and there was always an item or two at the top of the stairs that was left until someone had a reason to go down stairs, and then they took everything with them. It was a simple time efficiency system that worked well.

3. File, Don’t Pile

Whenever possible, put things in their proper place. This saves time in two ways. You don’t have to stop file don't pileand move it around because it’s in your way, and you won’t waste time looking for it if it is left in it’s proper spot. It seems really, really simple and it is. I have found that the best time to deal with something is while it is still in your hand. Pay some attention to where you store things and why. Does that location still work, or do you need to amend it somewhat? Fine tuning is always a good thing. The important thing is get started and make the refinements along the way.

There Is No Time Like The Present

This is so true on many different levels. There is no time like the present for any decisions that have to be made. No time like the present to get started on the thing that you have been procrastinating over, and no time like the present to begin to enjoy life. There also is truly ‘No Time Like The Present’, because that is the only time that we have. We can’t relive yesterday, and tomorrow is just a concept until we get there. The only time that we can count on having is RIGHT NOW!

Till Next Time….
