Mother’s Day Tribute; From A Son, Husband, Son-in-law

Guest Post by Archie McNab

Happy Mom’s Day to each and every one of you fantastic, overworked, overlooked, much loved and not appreciated enough, great ladies that all of us guys (and a lot of gals) are forever grateful for. This Mother’s day tribute is just a few words from me to say how happy I am that you were, or are in my life.

Mother’s day tribute

First of all there is the obvious, that without mothers we wouldn’t be here at all. Then there is the not so obvious things that moms do, the behind the scenes stuff that we never even think about or maybe don’t even know exists. Who do you think covered for you so that your dad never found out the true story behind the broken window, the hole in the wall, the missing tools, the early artistic trials on the walls, the pet grooming with kitchen scissors. You know what I’m talking about. Who stayed up late while you were out partying with your friends, who put the covers back on you when you kicked them off as a child? Who made sure you clothes were washed and ready for the school play, the school dance, football practice, the concert, or church?

mothersThis Mother’s Day tribute is for all the moms who made a million breakfasts of blueberry pancakes (that they don’t even like) sat through a million T-ball games, a hundred thousand dreadful concert recitals, and a billion bad class plays. To all of you who held out hands, bandaged our wounds (real or imagined) helped us with our first steps, our first bike ride, our first broken heart. To all of you who got up early, stayed up late, sat through the blazing sun, and in the bone numbing cold just to watch us do our stuff.

Saying Thank You With This Mother’s Day Tribute

This Mother’s Day tribute is for all of you who gave up dreams of Paris, sports cars and fine wines with tall dark handsome men to instead live in Terra Haute, Dearborn, and Springfield, driving a minivan or station wagon and drinking Koolaid and Slurpees. To all of you who gave up so much of yourselves to give us the best possible upbringing that you could. To all the ladies that never had children, but who became moms to so many of us. Who passed out chocolate chip cookies to grubby little hands, who made lemonade in industrial quantities, who opened their doors to let in someone who had to go PEEEE right NOW even though their shoes were covered in mud, or other icky stuff.

For all the miles of driving, minutes of waiting, truckloads of patience and oceans of love and understanding that you poured out over us and around us. For being there for us when we needed you, and for not being there when it was time for us to sort things out on our own. This Mother’s Day tribute is to all of you for the encouragement, the cajoling, bribing, pleading, threatening and yes, the  occasional kick in the butt to get us to do the things that we hated, but were so necessary for us to become who we are.

thank you

From all of us, to all of you thank you, thank you, thank you. Words alone cannot convey the feeling of appreciation and gratitude we have for you. I only hope that you get your due and your satisfaction in a job well done when you see what we have become, and what we are capable of doing with all that you have given us. Bless you one and all.

Till Next Time

You are so right. When we get older we seem to forget how much our Mothers have done for us, everybody is so busy with their own family, and at a time like this it is so nice to be reminded of it.
    Thank you
