Robert Kiyosaki and Network Marketing

Look Who Else Is At The Party

In the last few years there has been a host of high profile investor/financier types that have come out strongly in favour of network marketing as a small business for the average person to get involved with. Warren Buffet has tipped his hand by purchasing a controlling interest in Pampered Chef.  Both Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki have endorsed network marketing as a preferred strategy for business during this period of financial upheaval and wealth redistribution in the markets. The focus of this post is on Kiyosaki and his take on the industry of network marketing.

Can I Order My Yacht Now?

He is quick to point out that just like so many other business ideas this is not a get rich overnight method. So if that is what you want either keep looking or, may I humbly suggest lottery tickets. Waiting to inherit is a risky business because there is no guarantee that it may  come about. Similarly, odds are against you if you hope to find a rich spouse who will keep you in the style to which you wish you had become accustomed. So it looks like either a job or a business for you and me both.

No Glass Ceilings Here

Robert has long been known for pooh-poohing the job approach to building a nest egg and providing for the future. He scoffs, and rightfully so, at the go to school get a good secure job and save your money.  That’s one of the reasons why he has come down firmly on the side of network marketing.  As an industry he refers to it as the great equalizer.  Everyone is equal whether you are blind, only have one leg, are a card carrying member of MENSA, black, white or red in skin colour or are 21 or 79 years old.  Network marketing doesn’t care whether you have a PhD in Organic Chemistry or a gold medal in synchronized swimming.  It doesn’t matter if you’re an ex-manager of a busy McDonald’s or the heiress of the Hilton fortune, you’re going to be paid on your level of involvement and your persistence.

Why Can’t I Get Rich?

Robert says that ‘Most people never get wealthy simply because they are not trained financially to recognize opportunities right in front of them. The rich have learned to recognize opportunities as well as how to create them.’ But there’s more to it than just that too. They have learned that giving up is how most opportunities are lost and that if you are going to run from one shiny thing to another then you will never accumulate wealth.  The most important thing is action. Education without action is just entertainment. You need to get into action and stay that way.

Robert Kiyosaki’s Quotes

I am going to leave you with two of Robert’s quotes that I really love. They cut right to the heart of the difference between rich thinking people and poverty thinking people. If you want to be a rich thinking person you have to ignore the words of the well intention but misguided friends, family and advisors who will tell you that it’s all a waste of time and money, those things NEVER WORK.

Quote #1.     “The only difference between a rich person and a poor person is how they use their time. The poor, the unsuccessful, the unhappy and the unhealthy are the ones that use the word tomorrow the most.”

Quote #2.     “Your most expensive advice is the free advice you receive from your financially struggling friends or relatives.”

Friends Of a Feather

Misery loves company.  And your friends and relatives are comfortable with who you are. They are not going to be ok with you becoming an expert or a success. When they give you bad advice it’s the best they can give you based upon what they know and with their own self interest filter on what they say. It’s your job as a successful networker to ignore them and stay focused on your goals.

Till Next Time….

    Nice Post Sigrid,

Last year I read Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trumps book “Why we want you to be Rich” http://thedavidgardner.com/Kiyosaki-Trump-Book and this was a major chapter that stood out to me.

As I have been reading many things over the year, I think it is time to pull this one back out again and follow some more tips provided by these two wealth magnates!

Hi Juli, thanks so much for your comment. I think that the best aspect of network marketing is the fact that it’s a level playing field for all participants.

    Sigrid,

Robert really makes a lot of sense and he knows what it takes to be successful. I like his quote about not taking free financial advice from those that are broke, that would be the most expensive advice you could ever get.

    Thanks for the great read.

Hi Bill, Robert is spot on with his comment regarding free advice. You woudn’t take mechanical advice from someone whose yard was full of decades old broken down cars.

Damayanthi, I also wasn’t aware of Robert’s take on network marketing. Since researching it more, I am encouraged by his reasons for recommending it as a viable business model.

Anyone can be rich if he knows the right process to succeed. We must share our knowledge to those we want to help. Network marketing can be a success if we just know the proper way to handle it.
