If You’re Not Busy This Weekend, We’re Saving The World

Saving The World, Whether It Needs It Or Not

I realize the weekend’s half over and we might be a little tight for time to pull this one off, but what the heck, it’s not that much more hare-brained than some of the other current comments made by our fearless leaders. Just look at the mess we have gotten ourselves into. And then tell me we don’t need to save this place. After all, it’s the only place we have.

Now I realize that despite their best efforts to date, we don’t have confirmed evidence of the existence of past or present life forms on Mars, but we may have found water on Mercury.  I’m sure they would much rather have found more water on the dark continent, but they are too busy fighting from Cairo to the Congo to worry about  such nuances.

Meanwhile, here in the west, we don’t know who we are pulling for, or who is saving the world on our behalf this week. Is it the opposition to the dreaded Mubarek clan in Eygpt, now the newly formed quasi-dictatorship of Morsi, who looks to impose Sharia Law which will enshrine less tolerance and no equality for women in the constitution? Surely they are saving the world in Syria, where the despised heavy handed government is in danger of falling to the ‘Free Syrian Army’ ,aka the same Islamic forces that we are still fighting in Afghanetnam.

Let’s not forget the meetings in Qatar, where the representatives from countries are charged with coming up with all the answers for climate change, the launching of the new robin’s egg blue Iranian sub, and the visit of Kim K. to Bahrain. These are all events that are likely to have the same degree of impact in the search for global salvation, as the recent mediators involvement had in ending the NHL lockout.

In Europe, the Venetians are doing the backstroke, while Greece does its version of the dead man’s float with the economy.  Germany’s Merkel cannot manage to keep her fractious government happy while she tries to save the EuroZoneEveryone there is intent on saving the world too, but they want to save themselves first.

Closer to home, the Mexicans have a new president, but that’s not going to change the drug lord’s grip on so much of that country.  Guyana loses almost 5% of its annual gold production in a heist off a single fishboat, and Obama and the other lemmings stroll along the fiscal cliff. Clearly, they are all far too busy to be able to be up to saving the world this weekend.  All of this points to just one thing. It’s up to you and me. There’s no one else left. Certainly no one who matters like we do, no one who cares like we do.

Are you up for it? Down for it? Or just willing to go along for the ride? I think it is really pretty simple. And we are almost to the season for when it makes sense, as if there is such a thing as a season for giving. All we have to do is spend one day when we do one good thing for another person. That’s all it will take, just one good thing.

Oh, and one other thing. That same day, don’t do anything bad to anyone. Sound simple? It is. My day’s tomorrow. After all, I have half the weekend left for saving the world.

When’s YOUR Day?  Monday’s still available!

Till Next Time….
