Do You Have What It Takes To Be An Entrepreneur?

Do you dream of becoming your own boss or have a business idea that you are sure will work, or one that keeps you up at night? Are you more than willing to turn the day to day activities over to someone else so that you can work on your business? If you answered yes to most or all of those questions you might have what it takes.

entrepreneurOne of the greatest quotes on the subject that I have ever heard came from an entrepreneur friend of mine.  He told me, that when he undertook an action, there could only be one of two outcomes. It would either be a success or it would be a learning experience. He claims to be quite experienced. I am in that camp too where my ‘learning experiences’ far outweigh my successes.

Do you have the ability to turn your mistakes into learning experiences? Not just laugh them off, but to be able to look at them analytically, figure out what went wrong and have the moxy to try again. Think of Edison. Almost a thousand tries to find the correct way to make a light bulb. But he kept learning. And learning. And learning.

Are you motivated by an idea that you have that you want to bring to the world? It is so powerful that it consumes most of your time thinking about? If you do you might have the focus and sheer will required to be an entrepreneur. Are you willing to forgo the easy and instant rewards of working for someone else in return for your independence and the long term benefits of becoming an entrepreneur?

Entrepreneur Mindset Checklist:

  •     Motivated, self starter
  •     Focused but not detail oriented
  •     Willing to invest long hours
  •     Capable of multiple efforts
  •     Hard working
  •     Ability to create actionable ideas
  •     Appetite for risk

If you possess most or all of these skills and you are currently chafing in the job that you are working at and wanting something more out of life, it would be worth your time to look at what being an entrepreneur might entail for you. It could be your turn to join the millions of others around the world that have decided that working for someone else just doesn’t do it for them.

Till Next Time….

Sigrid McNab It does take a different mindset to be an entrepreneur – we get to look at things most people define as a brick wall and think of it as only a stepping stone to success! An entrepreneur has vision that allows him/her to persevere! I will share this post. Thanks!

Thanks Criss. You are so right that it takes a different mindset to be an entrepreneur. So often, we are not taught the skills in school that we need to risk, persevere and overcome.

Wow… this post really challenged me Sigrid.

I am looking at your bullet points & I don’t have a problem with
Motivated, self starter, Willing to invest long hours, Hard working, Ability to create actionable ideas and Appetite for risk.

But, when you say Focused but not detail oriented – I think I have got a problem. I can get focused and follow one task, but sometimes I get carried away with minor details. I am thinking of some of the projects that never came out just because I was too fussy about details that won’t even matter.
I am changing and your post is another kick for me to be realistic.

With regards to your point “Capable of multiple efforts” – do you mean that entrepreneurs need to have variety of skills? If that is what you are referrring I am not too concerned because I believe it is best to do what you are good at and get someone else to do the tasks you cannot do.

As always you get me thinking.

Hey Damayanthi. I am so glad that this post got you reflecting and thinking. Funny, but I think I have the same problem as you with getting carried away with minor details. We are all changing and growing Damayanthi and I commend you for taking the initiative to do that.
I totally agree that we need to work with our strengths and build a team of business partners with complementary skills.
