Question: What Is The Best Color For A Blog?

These questions are frequently asked by those that are new in the blogging game, or indeed by any webmaster who creates a website. Color is important and given that it is the first thing that people see, it is almost as important as the message. Please note, I said ALMOST, because to the best of my knowledge, spiders cannot detect color and who would actually search that way? Please show me all the blogs with purple borders? But with Google, who knows?

What Do You Want Your Blog To Say?

What message are you trying to convey? What is the theme of your blog going to be about? Using colors that compliment your message is important, but don’t allow a theme to paint yourself in a corner so to speak. Just because your blog is centered on gardens doesn’t mean it has to always be green, no more so than Reba’s dresses always have to be green. A nautical theme doesn’t always require blue, but it would seem odd to have a red or a green nautical site.   best color for a blog

The Best Color For A Blog Is? …

Darker colors are considered more conservative and brighter colors more lighthearted, even frivolous. But exercise caution, too much of either end of the spectrum can turn people off. The best color for a blog is often not a single color, but rather a contrast that allows the reader to easily read your message without being either distracted by the background, or lulled to sleep by the sameness of your page.

Instead of using black as a text color, consider using it only in headlines or to accentuate certain passages and instead rely on a darker grey for text. Using white text on a darker background is certainly eye catching, but it is very hard to read. Always consider your readers when you are determining the best color for a blog. The use of blues and reds in your text should be limited and only used for effect, for instance to get the reader’s attention or to draw their focus to a certain thought or statement.

It seems to be far more important to have a background that is discernible to the subconscious mind, but is not so contrasting as to divert the reader’s attention from the message you are passing along. Muted grays and white offer a sharp, clean contrast that makes any images on your blog ‘pop’.    best color for a blog

If you have bright banners, (and many of them are) and a eye catching opt-in form you may be creating a visual circus that the mind sees as a surreal blur of color and confusion. Sort of like a bad 70’s flashback. The carefully chosen ‘best color for a blog’ can get lost in the confusion and you leave the reader tired, overwhelmed and confused. Not the sort of message you want to give.

Don’t be afraid to experiment and try a number of different things. Pepsi wasn’t always red white and blue, and coke wasn’t always red and white. It took time for them to evolve into the colors that they are best known for. Don’t expect that you have stumbled upon the best color for a blog with your theme right off the bat. Be willing to ask others and to make adjustments, it could help you with your blog’s overall success. Good Luck.
